What is 1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten?

1000 Books B4 Kindergarten is a program that encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to/with their newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before your child enters kindergarten. This free program is an initiative launched by the Georgia Public Library Service in support of early literacy.

Who can participate?

Any young child who has not entered kindergarten.

Why should my child participate?

Reading has been associated as an early indicator of academic success, and most formal education does not typically start until ages 5-6. This means that parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the 0-5 early critical years! Read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten (you can even repeat books!) and help your child begin to develop their literacy skills.

How does it work?

Register for 1000 Books B4 Kindergarten today on Beanstack. Beanstack is an online reading tracker for your whole family. Download the Beanstack (by Zoobean) app to make logging even easier! (for Apple) (for Android)

You may also visit any Three Rivers Regional Library to register your child for this free program and download a print log.

Each time your child finishes 100 books, visit a library branch to pick up a prize!

If you read just one book a day with your child, they will have read 1,095 books in three years. By reading just three books a day you will have read over 1,000 books in one year! You can repeat books, listen to books, and can even count books read at story time.
